Reference Guide: My Favorite Tools

A collection of all my favorite hair tools

By now you've most likely read my reference guide laying out all of the tools that you need in order to keep your hair healthy (click here if you haven't).  But, what about the extra stuff?  The bonuses?  The things you don't absolutely need, but find incredibly helpful.  Don't worry, I'm here for that too.  I've got all of my favorite items and tools listed here for you.  Bonus: so many of these are available on Amazon!

1.) Dyson Hair Dryer

Yes, you've caught me, I've converted.  I'm obsessed with how fast and thoroughly my dyson is able to dry hair.  If you're a regular blowdryer (or have extensions) it truly is SO helpful.

2.) Babyliss Curling Iron

I constantly get asked what my favorite curling iron is!  This one from Babyliss is the one that I use both at home and in the salon.  For hair collar-bone length and above I prefer the 1 inch barrel.  For longer hair I suggest the 1.25 inch size.

3.) Dent-Free Hair Ties

Traditional hair ties cause tension on the hair which leads to breakage.  In addition to varying the style your using (which prevents constant tension on the same part of your hair) switch to one of these hairties which are more gentle on the hair than traditional options.

4.) Collagen Powder

Okay, okay.  This one isn't a tool per-se. But, so worth mentioning!  Taking collagen daily can help prime the body to grow healthier, longer hair.  I've had multiple clients notice an increase in hair length and health with daily intake.  Of course, check with your doctor before beginning any new supplements to be sure they're a good choice for you.

5.) Shower Cap

We all know that it takes extra time to style your hair on wash day, and we want to make those last as long as possible.  These are my favorite reusable shower caps that will allow you to keep your hair perfectly dry and preserve that style between wash days.

6.) Hats

Hats are a dream for those days when you probably should wash your hair but don't want to.  My favorite brand of hats is by far Brixton.  They're often available at Redemption (also in downtown Campbell) or online here:

7.) Dry Shampoo

Speaking of wash schedules, you know I love my dry shampoo for extending my blowout life.  My favorite dry shampoo is from Redken. It makes my hair feel clean without feeling like it's full of texturizing spray.  Now, I do want to say, if you've been in the salon with me before you know I'm adamant about only buying hair products from a credible salon or directly from the company and I stand by that.  Redken's site takes you directly to this page on amazon (because they work directly together at the time of writing this) so this is a safe resource for this product!

8.) Round Brushes

If you're doing a lot of home blowouts, you're going to want a good round brush.  These ones from Olivia Garden are my favorites and the ones that I use in the salon.  I love using a smaller diameter to first smooth out those baby hairs, and a larger size for the rest of the hair.   You can purchase these in the salon when available, or online here:
