How to Get the Most Out of Your Salon Results

All of my favorite tips and tricks to help your salon results to last as long as possible.

If we’re honest, who doesn’t love getting the most bang for their buck?

Whether it’s finding a discount code for that next online shopping binge, or extending the life of your recent hair appointment’s results, one thing is certain: we want more, for less.

And I’m right there with you!

Today, I’d love to share some tips and tricks on how to get the most out of your salon results, so that you can schedule fewer appointments, keep your hair looking fresher, and maybe even save yourself some time, too. Ideal, right?

First and foremost, let’s talk about in-salon tips and tricks.

Tip 1: Combine Services

We’re all busy, and hardly any of us have time to sit in the chair for longer than is absolutely necessary. That said, it is far simpler and more time efficient to come in for a base color and cut in the same day, rather than scheduling a base color for one day, and a cut for another. By pairing your services together, you’ll be able to ensure you get everything done, without the overwhelm.

Now, if your services are better off done separately, I (or your stylist) will always let you know!

Tip 2: Add a Treatment

Treatments serve to seal down the hair’s cuticle, while repairing it. This leads to a longer time between haircuts, and (you guessed it) fewer salon visits.

Tip 3: Go Warm

Warmer tones tend to be closer to where our lightened hair naturally wants to live. Cooler tones with a silvery gray or ash appearance fade quicker, which exposes your hair’s natural warmth (i.e., brassiness and orange hair). Consider opting for a cool-gold tone in your hair, as it’ll fade more subtly, while allowing you to elongate your time between toning appointments.

Tip 4: Try a Blended Base

Incorporate your natural base into your overall look! Rather than bringing your lightened hair or color all the way from roots to ends, try to allow your natural root to blend into your lightened or colored hair. This will create a much softer grow out, and lessen your need for frequent highlight retouches. Don’t worry - if you want to give this look a try, just let me know! I’ll make sure we transition your hair to account for that beautiful, blended base.

Tip 5: Opt for Less Gray Coverage

Before you panic, allow me to explain: less gray coverage means a far less obvious line of demarcation when your hair grows out. Meaning? The moment your gray hair starts to peek out, you wont need to run into the salon right away - less gray coverage can actually buy you more time.

Now, let’s discuss at-home tips and tricks.

Tip 6: Use the Right Products

You’re investing hard-earned time and money into your hair at the salon - don’t waste that on drugstore products that will quickly strip your color, and damage your hair! While investing in better hair care products might feel pricey at the time, it’s incredible what an effect they can have on the longevity of your color, and the health of your hair.

Tip 7: Commit to Weekly Self-Care

Yep, I mean it. Commit to carving out the time to perform at-home hair treatments, weekly. You can treat yourself to a little spa day with a great deep conditioning mask or bond builder, while relaxing in the tub.

Tip 8: Use Heat & UV Protectant

When styling with hot tools, heat protection is absolutely key to preserving your color. Over exposure to hot tools can impact the longevity and vibrancy of your color, and cause some major breakage and split ends. My personal favorites are the 7 Seconds Detangler, and 7 Seconds Glossing Spray!

Believe it or not, your hair needs UV protection, too. Sure, it might not burn like your skin, but spending too much time in the sun can cause plenty of fading - in fact, sun exposure can actually work like a slow-moving bleach. Pretty crazy, right?

So, stock up on heat and UV protection - you’ll be glad you did ☀️

Tip 9: Use a Shower Filter

Typical shower heads can actually be damaging to your hair’s health and color. Shower filters help to prevent color-dulling minerals from depositing in your hair. Additionally, those mineral deposits can cause dryness and additional damage, leading to more trims. All in all, a great shower filter can do wonders for your hair’s color and health - click the link below for my favorite one on Amazon!

Tip 10: Be Kind to Yourself

Sure, we can all hope and pray to wake up with salon-quality hair every single day, but that just isn’t always reality. Sometimes, a messy bun, some braids or a good hat will do just what we need… and that’s okay, too.
